PURPOSE:To provide a ceramic engine subsidiary chamber of high performance sufficiently durable against forming an engine into high performance having a sufficient characteristic in also the point of heat resistance or the like with high fracture toughness strength and excellent thermal shock resistance. CONSTITUTION:An engine subsidiary chamber is formed of grain dispersing compound material dispersing SiC particulates and Si3N4 whisker in an Si3N4 matrix. Si3N4: 70 to 90vol.%, SiC: 30 to 10vol.%, Si3N4 whisker is constituted by 5 to 10vol.% relating to the Si3N4 matrix. The Si3N4 matrix ceramics is a material strong in heat resistance and wear resistance, but by nanodispersing the SiC particulate in this material, thermal shock resistance and heat resistance are markedly improved. The Si3N4 whisker effectively acts for improving toughness, to improve high temperature toughness and crack resistance. |
