PURPOSE: To facilitate opening and closing by decreasing the speed of movement of a lid by the action of a hinge spring having a braking mechanism as a trunk lid or the like rotates from the lowered position to the raised position and opens. CONSTITUTION: An arm assembly 26 is connected rotatably to a bracket 28 fixed to an automobile and a trunk lid 22. Subsequently, both ends of a coil spring 30 of a hinge spring assembly 20 are connected to the bracket 28 and a crank arm 46 so that it may be rewound when the arm 26 rotates from the lowered position to the raised position following the opening of the lid 22. Subsequently, when the arm 26 rotates from the lowered position to the raised position, an adjusting nut 42 is rotated in the thread portion of a stud 38 by the rotation of the arm 46. Furthermore, the nut 42 translates along the stud 38, translating a plate 32 through a spring wire 44. The plate 32 butts the spring 30 while increasing its force, slows the rotation of the arm 26 by a braking action, and reduces the momentum of the lid 22, thereby controlling the motion of the lid for smooth opening. |
