Process for, in particular, accelerated, aerobic microbiological decomposition of biological substances, which are covered by a covering layer, air at superatmospheric pressure being specifically fed via gas feed lines, possibly with further addition of oxygen, to the biological substances of a deposit subjected to forced ventilation therewith, and gases being withdrawn, in particular removed by suction, from the biological substances via gas withdrawal lines.
