An unsheared, H2O-soluble branched cationic or anionic polymeric flocculant having soln. viscosity of at least 1-8 m pas (cationic) or 3.0 mpas (anionic) (0.1 wt% soln. imnall at 60 rpm, 25 degC), comprises polymerising one or more cationic or anionic, H2O-Sd, ethylenically unsatd. monomers with 4-80 mol. ppm of at least one branching agent in the presence of at least one chain-transfer agent to give a branched polymeric flocculant with solubility quotient greater than 30%; and for the prepn. of an unsheared, H2O-soluble, branched, nonionic polymeric flocculant having soln. viscosity of at least 1.9 mpas (0.1 wt% soln in 1mnacall at 60 vpm, 25 deg C) & comprising at least one ethylenically non-ionic monomer & having 4-80 mol. ppm branching agent content, comprises polymerising one or more H2nO-sol., non-ionic, ethylenically unsatd. monomers & 4-80 mol. ppm of at least are branching agent in the presence of a chain transfer agent. |
