A semiliquid or liquid food product is frozen in pieces by chilling an impervious support (2) as well as at least one cutter blade (12) arranged to be moved into contact with the support, to a sufficiently low temperature to freeze a food product, upon its contact with the support and the cutter blade, over the entire surface of contact of said product without the latter freezing fast thereto. The cutter blade is lowered into contact with the support while cutting through the food product (11) dispensed onto the support, and is removed from the food product dispensed onto the support as soon as a layer of said product closest to the support and to the cutter blade has frozen and formed a supporting bottom and one or several side walls that are contiguous with the bottom. The finally formed discrete pieces are removed from the support for final freezing thereof in a second freezer. |
