The interactive multimedia communication system has multiple sites each equipped with information transmission and programme creation facilities and linked by a virtual bus. The transmission facility is based on a microcomputer (1) with keyboard (2) and mouse (3). A message advice card (4) is connected, as is a modem (5), a UHF modulator (6) and a digital interface (7). The creation facility is also based on a microcomputer, but has extended access provided by digitiser tables, a scanner, a digital image gatherer, a video camera, CD ROM reader and tape recorder. The virtual bus is provided by various digital communication media, including X25 lines, telephone lines, digital lines, radio links, and optic fibres.
