Permanent shaping of keratin fibres comprises (1) treating the fibres with a compsn. contg. (a) /-0.5% of a base, the acid form of which has pKa 8-12.5 and (b) an acidifier, the fibres being kept under tension before, during or after treatment; (2) treating the fibres with a gas, contg. steam, at above 75 deg C; (3) opt. cooling with a flow of air or water; and (4) sepg. the fibres from the tension device.
