PURPOSE:To improve fitness, bond strength and sealability of main face by forming a standing and opening graphite part in a thin leaf state at least on part of the main face side of an expanded graphite base prepared by pressurizing and integrating expanded graphite particles. CONSTITUTION:Expanded graphite particles 1a are pressurized and mutually integrated to form an expanded graphite base 11. Then, a standing and opening thin leaf graphite part 12 is formed by using microblast processing, irradiation with ultrasonic wave or irradiation with laser at least on part of a main face 11a side in the expanded graphite base 11 to produce a sealing material made of expanded graphite. Consequently, since a highly orientated state of the expanded graphite in the main face part 11a is reduced, fitness, etc., of the main face 11a can be secured. Peel strength and corrosion resistance can be improved by impregnating the main face 11a side having formed the thin leaf graphite part 12 with a sealing agent or forming a coating layer. The prepared sealing material made of expanded graphite is suitable for producing a gasket, etc. |
