PURPOSE:To industrially advantageously obtain an oligomer of an alpha-olefin, such as 1-hexene, in high yield and at high selectivity without any complicated procedure. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing an a-olefin oligomer by using a chromium-base catalyst, wherein a catalyst system comprising at least a combination of a chromium compound, an amine or metal amide, and an alkylaluminum compound is used as the chromium-base catalyst and wherein an alpha-olefin is brought into contact with the catalyst in a solvent to effect the oligomerization of the alpha-olefin in such a manner that the chromium compound does not contact the alkylaluminum compound beforehand. |
