摘要 PURPOSE:To efficiently follow and recognize objects around a road by predicting the spatial position change of a specified point based on the travel of a vehicle or the like and deciding whether the same specified point exists in a following picture or not from the range of errors in this neighborhood. CONSTITUTION:An on-vehicle color camera 11 outputs an analog electric signal expressing the respective points of a picked-up picture in colors. This analog signal is converted to image data at an image processing circuit 13. These image data are inputted to an image recognition processing part 15. Support information is applied from a position detection processor 2 to the image recognition processing part 15. The device 2 is provided with a distance sensor 21 and an azimuth sensor 22. The outputs of these sensors 21 and 22 are processed by a sensor processing circuit 23 to be converted to travel distance data and present azimuth data. These data are inputted to a position inspection processing part 25, and the position detection processing part 25 calculates the present position data of the vehicle or the like.
