PURPOSE:To reduce the number of pitch envelope channels less than the number of DCO channels and to efficiently use the DCO channel related to a technique allocating a pitch envelope in a musical sound generation device. CONSTITUTION:The maximum number of pitch envelope channels is set less than the maximum number of DCO channels. When a new note on is generated, in a step 802, the number of using pitch envelopes and the number of using DCOs of a tone color related to the new note on are obtained from the tone color data stored in a ROM, etc. Then, in the case of the tone color requiring no pitch envelope, no control processes for assigning the pitch envelope channels shown in steps 803-806 are executed, and only the control processes for assigning the DCO channels after a step 807 are executed. Thus, the number of DCO channels assignable simultaneously is made more than the maximum number of pitch envelope channels. |
