In a sound evaluation process, a digital signal that corresponds to the sound is subjected to a Fourier time transformation (FTT 14). Partial tones are derived from the result for predetermined frequencies within an equally predetermined evaluation interval. Thanks to the frequency-dependent definition of the evaluation interval for determining a partial tone, sound, in particular a technical sound, are reproduced in a manner that corresponds to the perception of the human ear. The determination of partial tone lines reduces the data to be processed and makes the representation of the result clearer. A criterion that allows the perception of knocks to be recognised is derived from the progression in time of a selected partial tone line. This process is particularly suitable for evaluating technical, industrial sounds and is therefore particularly applicable to acoustic quality control. |
