The water heater is provided with a temperature detection and control unit which compares the outlet temperature of the water flow with a predetermined reference value. The reference temperature detector (16) delays the switching of the first comparator (5) following an increase in the reference temperature (Ts), by means of delay switch (6), and maintains the actual temperature (Tist) or the reference temperature within a limited range (Tgrenz), and a false failure condition is avoided.
