A mandrel for the manufacture of a part from composite material by a filament winding technique has a layer of composite material whose threads are wound circumferentially around a metal jacket. The mandrel has an overall thermal expansion close to the expansion of the reinforcing fibres in the parts manufactured on the mandrel. The invention also relates to the use of the mandrel in the manufacture of curved, elongate sections.
