The mechanism holds a hinging door (4) in the open position. On the side of the door (4) facing in the opening direction is a component (16) hinging from the stowed position (22) into the working one (23) so as to engage behind the stopper (12) on the floor in the path of the door, and preferably at least partly of elastic material. The part of the component engaging behind the stopper can extend upwards in the stowed position, and it can typically consist of an annular stirrup. It can hinge on a bearing screwed or glued to the door.
