An edge grinding device (20) for mechanically rounding off edges of structural members (19) which are passed through said edge grinding device (20). It comprises a main frame (1) having, in relation to the direction of travel of the structural member (19), transversally extending support rollers (7) upon which the structural member (19) rests and is driven forward. The edge grinder (20) has at least one grinding aggregate (10) with a movable grinding element (13), said grinding aggregate (10) being pivotally mounted on a frame (2) about an axis running substantially parallel to the advancement axis of the structural member. The pivotal axis (22) is outside the structural member (22), and the cross sectional profile of the grinding element (13) has a predetermined geometric configuration adapted to the location of the pivotal axis and the radius of curvature (r1) of the rounding of the edge.
