Removal of pesticide from ginseng

Removal of residues of plant protectants from ground, air-dried ginseng comprises extraction at 200-300 bar pressure and a temp. below 100 deg C with carbon dioxide which contains an admixed entrainer and which is charged with water prior to introduction into the extractor. Pref. conveniently, the ginseng used has a particle size below 0.1 mm and is extracted at 250-350 bar and at 60-90 deg C. The entrainer, esp. acetone, is suitable present in an amt. of 3-10 wt.% based on the carbon dioxide. Further, 10-20 wt.% water is advantageously used based on the amt. of ginseng, but its solubility limit in carbon dioxide must not be exceeded.
