The lifting device has a lifting element (21) and a filling element (6) for the carrier (43) of the bottles etc. being filled. The lifting device for the carrier has an auxiliary lifting element (28), by which the washing shells (38,38a,38b,38c) can be moved along the filling axis between the working and non-working positions. The carrier may be a plate which in the working position has its top surface in a plane perpendicular to the filling element axis. The washing shells in the non-working position are under the holder plate, which can be moved by the lifting device, so that it is moved out of the space in which the shells move before or during their movement from the non-working to the working position.
