In this process for the preparation of isobutylbenzene from toluene and propylene, use is made of a catalyst obtained by mixing potassium carbonate particles in toluene, at least 50% of the particles having a size of less than 50 mu m, sodium is added and the mixture of sodium, carbonate particles and toluene is subjected to very vigorous stirring by means of a turbine-type apparatus which produces a shearing effect and with peripheral speeds of 5 to 30 m/s and preferably 15 to 30 m/s, the catalytic mixture obtained is brought into contact with the toluene of the reaction and activated between 150 and 250 DEG C, propylene is then added and the isobutylbenzene formed. |
