The optical communications system comprises two optical fibres connected to a first transmitter and a first receiver respectively. An optical circulator is provided, having at least first, second, and third ports, the first and third ports connected to the first and the second optical fibres, respectively. A first dispersion compensating waveguide is connected to the second port. A first return device is connected to the first dispersion compensating waveguide, the return device returning a signal to the circulator through the dispersion compensating waveguide. |
