[Also in Division F2] Articles are coated with a P.T.F.E. layer of substantially uniform thickness and density by isostatically pressing powdered P.T.F.E. against the article and subsequently sintering the coating thus formed. As shown in the figure, a valve closure member 50 is coated by surrounding it with an elastomeric membrane 55, filling the space between the membrane and the closure member with powdered P.T.F.E., sealing the membrane around the ends of the closure member, and immersing the whole in a pressurised liquid. The coating thus formed is subsequently sintered.
