1,220,261. Fuel injectors. V.D. ROOSA. Jan.10, 1968 [Jan.13, 1967], No.1421/68. Heading F1B. In a fuel injector with a spring-biased needle valve 16, the spring chamber 28 freely communicates with an expansion chamber which accommodates fuel displaced from the spring chamber when the needle valve is opened. The expansion chamber may be formed by a cap 42 with a wall 42a which bows outwardly. The lift of the valve 16 is determined by a stop 36 and the spring loading by a stop 32. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the expansion chamber is defined by an extension of the spring chamber wall, a projection (32a) from the spring-loading stop (32) and a rubber O-ring (52), located between the extension and the projection and biased by a plurality of spring washers (56).
|
