PURPOSE:To obtain a carbapenem derivative useful as a medicine, having excellent antimicrobial activity. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R<1> is H or a lower alkyl; R<2> is H, a negative charge or an ester residue; R<3> is H or a lower alkyl; X is S, O or NH; (p) and (q) are 0-3; ring A is phenyl or a five- to six-membered unsaturated hetero ring which may have a substituent group containing at least one of N, S and O) such as (1R,5S,6S)-6-((R)-1-hydroxyethyl)-1-methyl-2-[[ (2S,4 S)2-[(E)-3-[(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-yl)thio]-1-propenyl]-4pyrrolidinyl ]thio]carbapen- em-2-carboxylic acid. This compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (R<4> is a carboxy protecting group; R<5> is an amino- protecting group) with a compound of formula III to give a compound of formula IV, then optionally deprotecting, esterifying or subjecting to salt-forming reaction. |
