The invention comprises 4-nitropyridazine-1-oxides of general formula: where R is lower (1-4C) alkyl and R1 is halogen; and their preparation, according to the examples, by reaction of the corresponding 4-unsubstituted compound with a nitrating agent. Starting materials are prepared in accordance with the reaction scheme: ALSO:Externally applicable pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds of general formula wherein R is lower (1-4 C) alkyl and R1 is halogen, together with carriers. Tinctures, powders, creams, ointments, solutions and suspensions are mentioned. The compounds have antifungal, and also antibacterial, properties.
