[Also in Division B5] A replaceable bearing insert comprises a rubber backing layer 18 (Fig. 2, not shown) and a rubber bearing layer 20, the bearing layer having a high Shore hardness relative to the backing layer and being substantially thicker than the backing layer. The layers are bonded together and the bearing layer has axial grooves in its inner surface. The insert is cylindrical or formed from a rectangular sheet rolled into cylindrical form so that two edges are in close proximity or abut and may be bonded together. The insert is retained within a metal sleeve 12 by shoulders 16, the sleeve being secured in a marine propeller shaft supporting strut 22 by set-screw 32 (Fig. 1, not shown). |
