Polyhydroxypolyethers as low foam surfactants

Polyhydroxypolyethers as low foam surfactants comprising a compound of the general formula <IMAGE> I wherein R1 is a linear or branched C2- to C18-alkylene radical; R2 is H, <IMAGE> R3, R4 are linear or branched C2 to C18 alkyl radicals; Z is a number of from 1 to 3; with the proviso that at least one R2 is <IMAGE> n is a number of from 2 to 8; m is a number of from 15 to 34; and l is a number of from 0 to 3. These compounds are useful in cleaning compositions and rinse aids which are low foaming and biodegradable.
