PURPOSE: To pretreat a porous medium so that the clogging of the porous medium is previously prevented and the time in which effective filtration with the porous medium is carried out is prolonged. CONSTITUTION: In the method of pretreating a porous medium for use in filtering a protein-containing fluid such as milk, beer or wine, the porous medium is brought into contact with an aqueous citrate solution prior to passing the protein-containing fluid through the porous medium.
