The engine consists of a hollow cylindrical housing (1) containing a rotary member (2) with stepped surfaces (12) forming recesses (22) for a reciprocating assembly to engage with. The housing is equipped with a radial recess forming a channel (13) which contains a piston and a freely-moving component (4) situated between the piston and the rotary member (2). The freely-moving component (4) is in the shape of a curved segment and makes a sliding contact with the end face of the piston while being able to penetrate at least partially into the rotary member recesses. During operation the segment-shaped component (4) forms chamber of variable volume with the rotary member's recesses which are filled with a fuel mixture and ignited in sequence to turn the inner rotary member.
