PURPOSE:To make a device compact by adding a different focus detection area in a vertical direction to cross shaped focus detection areas in a horizontal direction and in the vertical direction and using a focus detection optical system in common when the focus detection area is detected. CONSTITUTION:This device is constituted of a visual field mask 101 provided near a focus detection surface (primary image surface), a field lens 102, a diaphragm 103 provided with two pairs of apertures and two pairs of image reforming lens 104. Then, luminous flux passed through the diaphragm apertures 103a and 103b which are spatially different in the horizontal direction is guided to a pair of photoelectric element arrays 105a and 105b and luminous flux passed through the diaphragm apertures 103c and 103d which are spatially different in the vertical direction is guided to the other pair of photoelectric element arrays 105c and 105d. When the luminous flux is viewed on a photoelectric element chip 105, it is projected without allowing the aperture of the mask 101 to overlap the arrays 105a-105d. By using the output parts of the paired photoelectric arrays in common, unbalance is not caused and an object is accurately detected. |
