PURPOSE:To provide a polarizing plate having polarizing axes in different directions in which regions of different polarizing axes are formed with good accuracy. CONSTITUTION:A polarizer 37 prepared by orienting a polymer film and adsorbing and dispersing iodine is irradiated with UV rays 57 in a preliminarily specified area 51b. The polarizing function of the polarizer 37 is produced by the dichroism of iodine molecules. However, by irradiation of UV rays 57, the iodine decomposes to lose the dichroism. Thereby, the polarizing function in the area 51b disappears. A preliminarily specified area 58b of a polarizer 38 prepared by the same method as above is irradiated with UV rays 57. The polarizing function in the area 58b of the polarizer 38 is also lost. These polarizers 37, 38 are laminated with the polarizing axes in different directions from each other. Thus, the obtd. polarizing plate 33 has polarizing axes of two different directions and the areas of different polarizing axes are formed with good accuracy. |
