PURPOSE: To determine flow characteristics of a medium by transmitting/ receiving respective plural sound waves depending on vortex and symmetry by plural transducers, and measuring running time of the sound waves to find running time of flow of the medium. CONSTITUTION: Transducers(TD) 1A, 4A send a sound wave 11 and a sound wave 14 conterclockwise and clockwise respectively along a sound passage including two reflections. The sound waves 11, 14 are respectively received by TD1B, 4B, and then the sound waves are transmitted in the opposite direction to be received by TD1A, 4A, this time. Running time of these sound waves depends on vortexes. Next, TD2A, 3A and 5A transmit sound waves 12, 13, and 15 respectively, reflected sound waves are received by TD2B, 3B, and 5B and the sound waves are sent in the opposite direction again. Running time of these sound waves depends on symmetry of flow. Measured time of the sound waves is thus determined by a means 7 to measure running time of the sound waves based on signals from TD1-5, and characteristics of flow such as vortex and symmetrical property are also determined by a means 8 to determine the characteristics of flow. |
