PURPOSE: To effectively utilize track space on a storage medium by providing a current means to rotate a magnetizing direction of a magnetic resistance element in the inverse direction to a longitudinal direction of each magnetic resistance element. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic head 12 is provided with a first and a second MR element 14' and 14". The MR elements 14 are composed of two parts split by an insulation layer 16. The magnetic head 12 moves on a recording medium 20. A track 21 has a prescribed width 56, and this corresponds to a width 11 from 15a' to 15b or from 15a" to 15b". A differential amplifier 42 calculates a difference value between output signals from the leads 15a' and 15", and an adder 44 do a sum of the output signals from the leads 15a' and 15". A divider 48 divides the output value from the adder 44 by that from the amplifier 42. The output value A+B of the adder and the output value A+B of the amplifier 42 are sent to the divider 48, and a corrected value of (a+B)/(A+B) is obtained. |
