<p>PURPOSE:To obtain large amplification by accumulating charge in a photoelectric conversion part, generating an impact ionization phenomenon through high- level or low-level voltage difference between a source and drain, accumulating the charge according to the respective levels, and providing a driving means to generate secondary charge based on the total quantity of charge as well. CONSTITUTION:A light is made incident into a photoelectric conversion part with a PN joint generated by a well 6 and an Si substrate 7 and the charge generated after converting the light photoelectrically is accumulated. Then a current passes between a source 1 and drain 5, and an impact ionization is generated by making the voltage difference large, and the generated charge is accumulated. Furthermore, a current passes between the source 1 and drain 5, and the voltage difference is made small so as to generate secondary charge based on the total quantity of charge that is generated through photoelectric conversion and impact ionization phenomenon. Thus S/N can be improved because no output amplifier is used for amplification.</p> |
