PURPOSE:To provide an automatic focusing camera capable of quickly starting the focusing action of a photographing lens after the switching operation of a focus detection area while preventing the futile action of the photographing lens from being executed during the switching operation thereof. CONSTITUTION:The focusing action of the photographing lens 101 including the driving thereof is started as for the first focus detection area A1 selected at this time in response to first operation. When the switching operation to the second focus detection area A4 from the first focus detection area A1 is executed by a selection device 3, the focus detecting action as for the area A4 is started synchronously with the switching operation. Besides, the driving of the lens 101 based on the detected result of the focus in the area A4 is inhibited. Then, the driving of the lens 101 based on the detected result of the focus in the area A4 is started in response to the second operation executed after the switching operation to the area A4. |
