This mechanism for actuating a door giving access to a railway vehicle, especially an access door of the type consisting of two opposing sliding leaves, comprises two carriages, one for each one of the two leaves of the access door, which can be displaced in opposition on one and the same longitudinal and horizontal guide, which have individual lateral arms located in a coplanar manner in terms of horizontality and with their greater dimension facing in the same direction perpendicular to the direction of displacement of the carriages, each one of these arms having a rectilinear double-cam arrangement acting on a freely rotating roller mounted on a shaft secured to a point on the upper part of the corresponding leaf of the access door. <IMAGE>
