Image input scanner pen for paragraph scanning

The pen has a light source (24), a photosensor (27) and a distance/position coder (29) in a pen shaped housing. A lens receives image signals reflected from the document, these signals are refracted through the lens. A sensor receives the refracted image signals and converts them via a CCD into potential signals. Coded data is sent over a printer connector to the printer port of a computer (6). A control circuit receives the potential signal and a movement signal and converts them to suitable transmission signals. The position coder selects a desired part of an image only. Background correction compensates for variations in illumination intensity.
