The circuit-breaker switch has a fixed contact (13) fixed to and insulated from a base-plate (10) and an insulating material pivot lever (18) mounted on the base-plate (10). Another fixed contact (14) is attached to the base-plate (10). An elongate movable contact (15) is attached to the free end of the lever (18). The length of this contact (15) is such that it bridges the distance between the two fixed contacts (13,14) in the on-state. The movable contact (15) is pivotably attached to the lever (18) so that in the on-state it electrically connects with both fixed contacts (13,14). The second fixed contact (14) is arranged in a tubular housing closed at the other end and the movable contact (18) is guided into this housing. Each fixed contact (13,14) has a housing (21) with sprung contact fingers (23) between which the movable contact (15) is moved. The contact housings (21) are rectangular and, in the on-state, surround the movable contact (15). The second contact (14) has a spindle (67) and the movable contact (15) has a contact tube (83,84) with the latter (83,84) closely surrounding the former (67) in the on-state. When switching off, a gas stream is generated through the tube (83,84) by retracting the movable contact (15).
