The garden paths etc. (1) are paved with several plate elements, releasably connectable head-to-head. The elements have a footplate (2) with flanges (1a) at two sides projecting above the plane of the footplate. A cover or cloche is formed between two adjacent planks and may be of semicylindrical shape. The top free edges of the flanges (1a) form rails for agricultural and horticultural machines. The ends without flanges contain couplers for linking together.
