An apparatus for applying gummed seal labels (19) to containers (3), comprising a unit (14, 16) for transporting a plurality of said containers (3) arranged in succession along a path, and a feed unit (30) for feeding labels (19) to an application station (29) positioned in proximity to a portion of the path; the feed unit comprises a first conveyor element (23) for moving the labels (19) past an adhesive applicator (24), and a second conveyor element (31) for transferring the labels (19) from the first conveyor element (23) to respective containers (3) positioned in the application station (29); each label (19) is made to adhere only partly to (horizontal top surface (10) of) a relative container (3) by the action of the second conveyor element (31), a folder element (61) being provided to fold determined portions of each label (19) (onto a vertical side surface and horizontal bottom surface of the container) to make its adhesion to the container (3) complete. <IMAGE>
