[Also in Division E1] In a continuously advancing machine for correcting the position of rail track in which a monitoring system is provided for defining the required track position, the track shifting tools are disposed at an adjustable distance in advance of the monitoring element of the system. The machine shown for correcting alignment errors, includes a single reference line 19, end trolleys 20, 21 and measuring trolleys 26, 22, 22<SP>1</SP> each with means for urging their corresponding wheel flanges against the grade rail and track shifting apparatus 5. Assuming movement in the direction 43, the chord height of the line 19 is measured over corrected track at trolley 22 and this measurement is used to determine what the height should be at trolley 26 and the track is shifted to achieve this height. The shifting apparatus 5 is movable along the chassis of the main vehicle 1 and the trolley 26 is movable by the hydraulic means 27 to place the tools in advance of the monitoring element on trolley 26 by an amount which is adjusted manually or automatically as a function of the relaxation (spring back) of the track. |
