Target recognition sensor system

A sensor system for munitions (esp. area defence mines) has a target recognition sensor (34), a sensor array (42) for determining ambient data relevant to background characteristics and an equalising device for equalising the sensitivity of the target recognition sensor (34) according to the background characteristics to be expected from the determined ambient data. Also claimed are: (i) a munition equipped with the above sensory system; and (ii) a method of operating a target recognition sensor.
