PURPOSE:To improve resistance to spalling and erosion by slag by burning a mixture contg. Al2O3 in >1 molar ratio to MgO at a high temp. and carrying out rapid cooling. CONSTITUTION:A mixture contg. Al2O3 in >1 molar ratio to MgO is burned at a high temp. of >=1,700 deg.C and rapidly cooled to obtain desired clinker having spinel structure and a refractory contg. the clinker as a refractory material is obtd. The clinker contains >=80 and <90wt.% Al2O3, 9.95-18.5wt.% MgO and 0.05-1.50 wt.% CaO and the structure is essentially spinel structure. The clinker has resistance to erosion by slag comparable to that of known spinel clinker and much superior spalling resistance. |
