The rotary atomiser has a casing with a spray bell driven by a turbine via a hollow turbine shaft (12), with a paint tube carrier (18) in the casing and passing through the turbine shaft. The carrier contains a coaxial paint tube (16) to supply the fluid to the spray bell, forming a first annular groove (20) for cleaning fluid. There is a second annular groove between the paint tube and the jet body (22). A third annular groove (26) is formed between the jet body and the turbine shaft. This groove is connected to the first groove to carry cleaning fluid to remove the paint from the external surfaces of the jet body and the turbine shaft. A cone (14) is formed by the bell-side internal surface of the turbine shaft, widening out towards the spray bell.
