A process is described for the purification of waste water from car washes, in which the waste water from the car wash (1) is fed to a first settling tank (5), passed from this into a second settling tank (6), and a part of the prepurified water is pumped from the second settling tank, mixed (1) with air, flocculating agent and adsorbent and directly returned to the floor area (3) of the car wash (1), where it mixes with the unpurified waste water from the car wash. Another part of the prepurified water from the second settling tank is passed via a filter (18) into a holding tank (17) and from there is returned as clean water to the washing devices of the car wash (P3).
