PURPOSE: To avoid temperature fluctuations at contact surfaces so as to extend the life of a bearing arrangement in which bearings make contact with one another by covering one of at least two adjacent opposite contact surfaces with a friction-reducing layer. CONSTITUTION: Roller bearings 6, 6' have inner race rings 8, 8' and a double taper roller bearing 7 has an inner race ring 11, with the inner race rings 8, 11 making contact with each other at contact surfaces 16, 16', and with the inner race rings 11, 8' making contact with each other at contact surfaces 17' 17. One of each of the opposite pairs of contact surfaces 16, 16' and 17, 17' is provided with a friction-reducing layer which is 0.2 to 0.5 mm. The friction-reducing layer is applied by heat spraying, such as plasma spraying or wire spraying, and the material applied is bronze or molybdenum. The friction-reducing layer lengthens the time during which slip between the different contact surfaces occurs, and less heat is generated per unit time. Consequently, temperatures at the contact surfaces do not rise quickly and the occurrence of microcracks is avoided or delayed to extend the operational life of a bearing arrangement. |
