PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having little fluffing defect, etc., and excellent heat-cleanability by applying an antistatic agent composed of a specific PVA and a glycol to an alumina fiber, thereby imparting the fiber with excellent collectability and flexibility. CONSTITUTION:An alumina fiber is coated with 1-12wt.% of an emulsion of a sizing agent consisting of 10-50wt.% of a PVA having a saponification degree of 70-90mo1% and an average polymerization degree of 300-1,500 and 50-90wt.% of a polypropylene glycol having an average polymerization degree of 5-20, e.g. by immersing the fiber in the emulsion. The alumina fiber coated with the sizing agent exhibits excellent collectability, is imparted with good flexibility and smoothness and has flexural strength and scuff resistance. The fiber is suitable for the production of woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, braided cord, etc. |
