PURPOSE:To enable the alteration of a sound message, to automatically and properly control the sound volume of the sound message corresponding to the states of the circumference and to inform a state change generated when a user is not present by a printer as the sound message when the user approaches the printer. CONSTITUTION:A printer has a speaker 107 and the control part 104 extracting sound data starting in specific patterns from received data to store the same in a RAM 102. When a state change is generated in the engine part 103 of the printer, the control part 104 reads the sound data corresponding to the state change from the RAM 102 and a sound message is generated by a D/A converter 108 and the speaker 107. Microphones 501-504 being sound volume detectors are provided and the control part 104 controls the sound volume emitted from the speaker 107 on the basis of the sound volumes around the printer detected by the sound volume detectors. |
