A direct thermal printer is provided having a lamp cover member which is attached to an open end of an optical fixing device, for protecting a thermosensitive recording medium from contacting a lamp of the optical fixing device. The lamp cover member is formed with a plurality of openings for reducing the absorption of light into the lamp cover member. All edges of the openings are not parallel to the recording medium transporting direction.
