A method of, or shipyard for, constructing a ship whereby the section(s) 4 of the body of the vessel containing the holds 3 or similar spaces are erected in a building dock or on a slipway 1 the section(s) 5 of the body containing the machinery, and the superstructure units 6 such as the main deck house unit, are erected in erection-outfitting-shops or areas 7, 8, and the machinery section(s) and the superstructure units are moved into the dock or on to the slipway where the sections are units are connected to complete the body of the vessel. The erection outfitting-shops 7 and 8 are at the levels shown in Fig. 2 so that the machinery section(s) 5 and the superstructure units 6 can be shifted along tracks 9 and 10, respectively, to the position in which they are to be connected to the section 4. |
