Field emission electron source for fluorescent display

The source includes a cathode comprising a number of conducting ribbons (2) each defining a zone and presenting conducting islets (7). A resistor layer (3) is deposited over the cathode ribbons. The layer presents an array of emitting cones (6) which are positioned over the conducting islets. The resistor layer, which consists of amorphous silicon, is covered by an insulating layer (4) of silicon dioxide. Control electrodes (5) are placed on the insulating layer to cooperate with the cathode conductors.
